The Brief

Escape Live commissioned the design and build of a Jack the Ripper themed escape room for their Birmingham venue.

The brief was to create an experience that felt atmospheric and story-driven, while remaining appropriate for a commercial escape room audience. The room needed to balance tension and intrigue without relying on graphic content, and to operate reliably within a busy city-centre venue.

Our Solution

The escape room was designed around a strong narrative framework inspired by Victorian London, using lighting, sound, and set detail to establish atmosphere without overwhelming players.

Puzzle design focused on logical progression and clear feedback, encouraging collaboration and steady pacing throughout the game. Sets and props were built for durability, with technology and control systems integrated to support smooth resets and staff oversight.

Care was taken to ensure the theme remained suggestive rather than explicit, allowing the experience to feel immersive while remaining accessible to a broad audience.

The completed room delivered a compelling, narrative-driven experience that fit comfortably within Escape Live’s wider venue offering.

Operationally, the room proved reliable and manageable for staff, demonstrating how careful design and build decisions can support both immersion and long-term operation in a high-throughput environment.
