Horrible Histories

A full redesign and upgrade of an existing escape room into an officially licensed Horrible Histories experience spanning Roman, Tudor and Victorian eras.

  • Multi-era set design spanning Roman, Tudor and Victorian settings
  • Large-scale prop upgrades replacing simple puzzle elements
  • Integrated electronic puzzles and control systems
  • Family-focused licensed attraction

The Brief

Escape Live wanted to replace an existing casino-themed escape room with an officially licensed Horrible Histories experience. The aim was to create a family-friendly game that retained the footprint of the existing space while dramatically improving theming, puzzle quality, and overall immersion.

The new concept needed to feel larger in scale, more visually convincing, and suitable for a broad age range.

Our Solution

The space was reimagined as a multi-era historical journey, divided into three distinct sections: Roman, Tudor and Victorian. Each area required its own visual language, atmosphere, and puzzle logic while still functioning as a cohesive experience.

Existing design elements were upgraded to increase physicality and immersion. For example, a simple bedpost number puzzle in the previous version was replaced with a full-scale bed incorporating integrated electronics. A curtain feature became a fully constructed tent environment.

Control systems were introduced to support interactive puzzle elements and improve operational consistency. Scenic treatment transformed plain walls into a convincing Roman marketplace complete with stone textures and straw flooring.
