Scrapheap Golf was a nine-hole mini golf installation designed as a playful side attraction within Monkey Barrel Comedy in Edinburgh. Built using reclaimed materials and UV-reactive finishes, the project combined modular design with a distinctive visual identity.

The Brief
Scrapheap Golf was developed as a secondary attraction within Monkey Barrel Comedy, intended to complement the venue’s main offering rather than operate as a standalone experience.
The brief was to create something playful and distinctive that could sit comfortably alongside live comedy, attract a broad audience, and make use of a challenging, irregularly shaped space. Budget and materials were also key considerations, with an emphasis on reuse and adaptability rather than pristine finishes.
Our Solution
The solution was a compact nine-hole mini golf course designed around a modular system, allowing it to adapt to the unusual layout of the venue.
Reclaimed materials were used throughout the build, reinforcing the “scrapheap” theme while keeping the installation practical and flexible. The entire course was designed to operate under UV lighting, giving it a strong visual identity and helping the attraction stand out within a low-light environment.
Technology and control elements were kept deliberately simple, prioritising reliability and ease of operation within a busy venue. The modular approach also allowed the installation to be maintained and adjusted over time as needed.
From a delivery perspective, the project met expectations and demonstrated the effectiveness of the modular system, which proved easy to install and adapt within the space.
While the wider business outcome for the attraction evolved over time, the project itself successfully delivered a distinctive, technically sound installation that functioned as intended within a challenging environment.
